Social Work Reviews: An International Journal welcomes qualified scholars and experts to serve as Guest Editors for special issues and thematic collections. 1. What is a Guest Editor?
A Guest Editor is a recognized academic or professional expert who leads the editorial process for a special issue or thematic section of the journal. Guest Editors work closely with the Editorial Board to:
- Define the theme and scope of the special issue
- Invite high-quality submissions
- Oversee peer review
- Make recommendations on acceptance and publication
2. Eligibility Criteria
To be considered as a Guest Editor, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a PhD or equivalent academic qualification in social work or related fields
- Demonstrate a strong publication record in reputable journals
- Have expertise and leadership in the proposed thematic area
- Have experience in peer review and academic publishing
- Maintain high ethical standards and integrity
3. Roles and Responsibilities
Guest Editors are expected to perform the following duties:
3.1 Special Issue Planning
- Propose a clear and timely theme that aligns with the journal’s aims and scope
- Develop a detailed call for papers, including objectives, scope, and submission deadlines
- Collaborate with the Editorial Office to schedule publication timelines
3.2 Manuscript Handling
- Invite and encourage submissions from leading scholars
- Conduct an initial screening of submissions to ensure fit and quality
- Oversee the peer review process, ensuring that at least two expert reviewers evaluate each manuscript
- Ensure that reviewer comments are fair, constructive, and aligned with journal standards
3.3 Editorial Decision Making
- Make recommendations on manuscripts based on peer review and quality
- Coordinate revisions with authors and reviewers
- Ensure that the final decision is in accordance with the journal’s policies
3.4 Quality and Ethics Assurance
- Ensure that all accepted manuscripts meet ethical standards, including plagiarism checks and ethical approval
- Verify the originality and integrity of the research
- Ensure compliance with COPE and journal policies
